Back in 2008, Andrew Shafer scheduled a seminar on “Agile Infrastructure” in Toronto. He received a very poor response that he closed the seminar before it even began. In 2009, Patrick watched a presentation by John Allspaw on “10+ Deploys per Day: Dev and Ops Cooperation at Flickr”. John Allspaw spoke about how developers and operators can collaborate to improve the deployment of software. This presentation inspired Patrick to start his seminars. His conferences attracted forward-thinking minds who were trying to improve the deployment of software. The group of people who came together started the DevOpsDays hashtag on twitter. This hashtag started to trend, and more and more people joined the conversation under the hashtag DevOps. They had to reduce from DevopsDays to DevOps due to character limitations.
In 2010, the DevOpsDays face to face meetings was conducted in different cities around the world, which led to the popularity of DevOps.
By 2018 most organizations embraced DevOps in their business process. The ability to support the modern business that is constantly going through a transformation, more and more organizations started adopting DevOps in their processes.
